HAVE YOU EVER STARTED A PROJECT only to have it balloon into something REALLY BIG?  Well, that’s what’s happened with ‘just changing the shelves’!

30% MORE BOOKSHELVES! 
The first, and most obvious change, is 30% more bookshelves!  Some of you dropped by to witness the chaos
during Memorial Day weekend when we tore down all the old bookshelves and put up new ones!  We took lots of pictures
which you can now view on our website.  Your response has
been tremendous!  You clearly love it as much as we do, even though we both get lost at times!

CURRENT, HOT AND SPECIAL BOOKS:  We expanded the ‘current, hot and just in’ section.  Remember in the old days when we had ONE kiosk displaying the hot stuff?  Now we have over 200 FEET of shelf space dedicated to current and specialty books.  We can display them face out so they are easy to find, and you know immediately whether or not we have the latest book of your favorite author.  They have special tags on them because the paperbacks are 40% off the cover, hardbacks are $10 each and new books (we have a few) are 25% off the cover.  These specialty books no longer qualify for store credit.  Still a great deal, and so much more service!  This section is really FUN to browse and buy!

LET’S BE UP FRONT!  Almost all of the books you bring in for credit are now processed in the front of the store.  We clean them easier, find more of them for our ‘wishlist’ customers and re-shelve books in a more timely manner.  Besides being ever so much more efficient, it keeps the books right there for you to browse. Hurray! 

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MEMOIR AND AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY?    
I am particularly excited about sorting the biography ‘section’ into memoirs, biographies, autobiographies and travel writing.  It makes that section so much more fun and interesting to browse.  We have had lively discussions with many of you to help us define the difference between autobiography and memoir.  We decided memoirs are usually about an event or experience and written from a biased point of view.  An autobiography, on the other hand, usually spans the life of the author and strives to be factual.  What do you think?  Are we on the mark?

BOOK GROUP IN THE NEWS!

We made the news in August 2008 issue of the Business Report of South King County! 

Our monthly book club was featured in an article by Andrew Fickes.  We are one of a growing number of small businesses offering social opportunities for people interested in our product, namely books!  Other stores featured were a quilting shop and a shoe/running store in Kent.  Read the full article here, The Business Report, August 2008, page 3.
